Crown announces projects in Sydney and Perth
Crown Limited has announced an exclusive agreement with Lend Lease Corporation to develop a six star hotel resort at Sydney’s Barangaroo South. Lend Lease and Crown will work together to develop the plans for the property, giving Crown the right to work exclusively with Lend Lease on the project for up to two years to reach agreement on certain key milestones and obtain the necessary development approvals for the project. The company is considering options to incorporate a VIP gaming facility at the proposed property. Crown will also invest A$568 million in the development of a new six star luxury hotel in Perth, to be known as Crown Towers Perth, at Burswood Entertainment Complex. Construction in Perth is expected to commence in early 2013 and the hotel, which will take approximately 3 years to complete, will include 500 rooms, restaurants, bars, resort and convention facilities. Sydney welcomes Mr. Wong
Merivale will bring 1930s Shanghai to Sydney’s CBD with Mr. Wong, a Cantonese-style restaurant opening on Friday 10 August. The two-level Mr. Wong, located in Bridge Lane, will serve traditional and modern Cantonese for lunch and dinner until 2am. Merivale chefs Dan Hong (Ms.G’s, El Loco) and Jowett Yu (Ms.G’s) will lead the kitchen, alongside Eric Koh (Hakkasan, London) who will preside over the Dim Sum Bar. The restaurant will offer 60 distinctly Cantonese dishes including Chinese roasted duck, faux shark fin soup and abalone served with Hong and Yu’s unique take on flavours and presentation. Northern Territory gets into sporting spirit with NT Outback Games
The Northern Territory will offer a unique sporting experience at the NT Outback Games in Darwin on 1 September. Domestic and international visitors will be encouraged to enter the Games via social media, representing their state or country in events including sandbar soccer, camel equestrian, waterhole swimming and a thong marathon. The NT Outback Games is one of a series of Tourism NT initiatives encouraging people to book a trip to the Northern Territory between August and October 2012.
Melbourne Zoo celebrates 150 years with Mali in the city
Melbourne Zoo will mark 150 years at Royal Park this month with an exhibition of fibreglass elephants throughout Melbourne’s CBD. 50 fibreglass models of the zoo’s famous elephant calf, Mali, will be painted by artists and exhibited on the city's streets from 10 August-23 September. The artworks will be auctioned to the public on 25 October, with proceeds donated to Melbourne Zoo’s conservation work in Australia and overseas. Homebake Music, Film, Comedy & Arts Festival announces ‘global edition’
The Homebake festival will return to Sydney’s Domain on 8 December 2012 with a ‘global edition’ of music, film and comedy acts. Iconic American band Blondie, fronted by Deborah Harry, will headline the festival, which originated as an event presenting artists from the Southern Hemisphere.
