Margaret River launches first national TV advertisement
The Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association has launched its first domestic television advertisement for the Margaret River region, aimed at attracting interstate visitors from Australia’s eastern seaboard. The 15 second ad is part of a marketing strategy aimed at boosting the national profile of the Margaret River region as a world class tourism destination. It showcases the region’s landscapes, vineyards, whales and fine dining experiences. View the advertisement here. Sydney International Art Series brings exclusive exhibitions to Australia
The third annual Sydney International Art Series will bring two exclusive Australian exhibitions to the city. The Art Gallery of NSW will host the first major exhibition of Francis Bacon’s work from 17 November 2012 to 24 Feburary 2013. The exhibition will feature five decades of the revered figurative painter’s work, including more than 50 paintings as well as archival material from his studio, films and photographs. The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) will present the work of celebrated sculptor Anish Kapoor in a unique exhibition from 20 December 2012 to 1 April 2013. The Sydney International Art Series will offer combined ticketing for the first time, with consumers receiving a 20 per cent discount to visit both exhibitions. Melbourne’s new Hamer Hall unveiled
The newly redeveloped Hamer Hall at Melbourne Arts Centre has been unveiled, with new restaurants, bars, box offices and changes to the building’s open hours. The A$135.8 million redevelopment includes significant design, acoustic, access and facility upgrades to create a concert hall of international standard. Two new gourmet restaurants, Trocadero and Saké, have also taken a riverside berth at the new Hamer Hall, with a third restaurant to be announced in the coming weeks. Dewayne Everettsmith’s Tourism Australia campaign song nominated for award
Singer Dewayne Everettsmith, whose song It’s Like Love features in Tourism Australia’s latest television advertisement, has been named as a finalist for two awards at the National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs). Everettsmith is nominated for New Talent of the Year and It’s Like Love has been shortlisted as Song of the Year. The winners of the NIMAs will be announced in Darwin on 11 August. Everettsmith is also nominated for a 2012 Deadly Award for Most Promising New Talent in Music. The public can vote for the Deadly Award winners until 9 September.

Blue Mountains visitors make history at Scenic World
The 25 million visitors to Scenic World over the past 67 years have been invited to take part in an online campaign to ‘Make History’, as part of the A$30 million redevelopment of the Scenic Railway which includes a new train and track. Visitors are being asked to share their memories of Scenic World and the Blue Mountains by posting images and videos on Scenic World’s Facebook timeline. The best memories from each decade will find a permanent home in an online gallery, with the winners also awarded return flights from anywhere in Australia to share in the official launch event for the new train, two nights at Lilianfels Resort and Spa and annual passes. New website for family friendly accommodation
A new Australian website aims to take the frustration out of finding holiday accommodation for families. The site, familyfriendlyaccommodation.com.au, is the brainchild of Melbourne mother of two, Amanda Woodward. Visitors can use the website to research accommodation, share new properties and provide peer recommendations. The website currently features listings for more than 350 properties, mostly in Australia, with new listings added weekly.
