Vivid Sydney 2012 dates announced
Vivid Sydney will once again transform Sydney after dark in 2012, from 25 May – 11 June. The Harbour Foreshore, Circular Quay and The Rocks will become an outdoor stage for over 50 light sculptures, large scale light installations and projections, including illumination of the iconic Sydney Opera House sails. Vivid Sydney will also feature contemporary music performances, international creative industry conferences and the new Vivid Ideas Exchange, a hub for creative ideas, discussion and debate at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Mossman Gorge Visitors Centre to open in 2012
Mossman Gorge Centre, an Indigenous eco-tourism development in Northern Queensland is set to open in April 2012. The new visitor centre will enhance the overall tourism experience through a number of services and facilities such as a contemporary café, Indigenous art gallery and retail store, booking area for guided walks, extensive car and bus parking and an eco-friendly bus service to take visitors to and from the Gorge itself. The centre will also have rangers on-site to answer questions about the unique native flora and fauna of the area. 

Tickets to Canberra’s ENLIGHTEN 2012 now on sale
Tickets for ENLIGHTEN: See Canberra in a whole new light are now on sale, taking place over four nights on 2, 3, 9 and 10 March 2012. The new-look ENLIGHTEN will boast more than 35 night-time events at 11 attractions and is now part of the Canberra Festival. Highlights of the upcoming event include late night viewings of Renaissance: 15th and 16th Century Italian Paintings from the Accademia Carrara, Bergamo at the National Gallery of Australia, underground geological tours of Parliament House and a concert featuring Claire Bowditch and The Clouds at the National Museum of Australia. Accor Hotels acquires Mirvac Hotels
Accor Hotels has acquired Mirvac Hotels, expanding its portfolio by more than 6,000 rooms through Mirvac’s 44 Australian properties. With initial plans to align the Mirvac properties with Accor’s upscale and midscale brands, some properties may also be rebranded. Google Australia announces the most popular travel destinations searched for in 2011
Google Australia’s newly published annual Zeitgeist list has revealed the top ten international travel destination search terms used by Australians in 2011. Out of the top ten destinations seven are within Australia - Hamilton Island, Byron Bay, Blue Mountains, Port Douglas, Hayman Island, Great Barrier Reef and Uluru.

Unique photography workshop in Arnhemland
Renowned photographer Will Parker and Davidson’s Arnhemland Safaris have joined forces to launch Mt Borradaile – Arnhemland Adventure Photographic Workshop, taking place from 1 – 4 May 2012. This special workshop gives the participants the unique opportunity to visit and photograph one of Australia’s most pristine wilderness locations. Participants will stay at the safari lodge at Mt Borradaile and will have many photographic opportunities such as cruising the Cooper Creek, visiting ancient rock paintings and observing crocodiles that inhabit the watercourses. Melbourne Aquarium introduces new shipwreck experience
Melbourne Aquarium has unveiled a major new attraction, Shipwreck Cove, a 600,000 litre exhibit which showcases iconic marine animals in a unique way. The skeleton of a full-scale shipwreck contains the new exhibition which houses over 20 juvenile sharks, including White Tip Reef Sharks, Black Tip Sharks and Tawney Nurse Sharks. The Aquarium will also host a summer school holiday special event, ‘Sharks of Shipwreck Cove”, from 26 December 2011 – 31 January 2012. Qantas to launch in-flight Wi-Fi access for customers
Qantas has announced that its passengers will soon be able to access the internet in-flight, using their own personal electronic devices. The in-flight connectivity trial will commence on six Qantas A380s, on selected flights between Sydney/Melbourne and Los Angeles. Following the trial Qantas will evaluate opportunities for the function to be applied across both the domestic and international fleet.
