Media Hosting Program

Full story

Tourism Australia understands that it is necessary, at times, for media to immerse themselves in a destination to capture its essence; to feel its energy; to explore its environs; and to engage with its people. We also recognise that this experience enables media to create motivating and compelling content.

Our media hosting program is designed to enable media to meet these goals. Each itinerary is individually tailored to meet specific needs and story objectives. Our focus is on providing itineraries that includes the most compelling Australian experiences such as our beaches, cities, outback, nature and wildlife, food and wine, Indigenous culture and journeys.

Tourism Australia hosts between 800 to 1,000 media representatives each year from almost 30 countries. This includes international media from print (trade and consumer) publications, broadcast (free-to-air and cable television and radio) and online channels including blogs.

Our preference is to host media channels whose readership or viewership aligns with, and has deep reach into, our target consumer audience. While we proactively invite media to travel to Australia as our guest, if you have a compelling story idea, we would also be very interested in hearing from you.

To be considered for our program, you may be a freelance journalist or photo-journalist that works across one or more media channels or you may be employed full or part-time by a media channel.

We would prefer you have a commissioned story angle to participate on our media hosting program and of course, anticipate that you will create compelling stories that will be published or broadcast within your assigned media channels.

If you are invited to travel to Australia you will be the guest of Tourism Australia. We also work with our State Tourism partners and hundreds of tourism operators to ensure that your visit runs smoothly. During your visit, we may provide an escort or allow you to meet your itinerary obligations independently. This will depend on your needs and the complexity of your itinerary.

During your trip we will endeavour to put you in touch with real Aussies so that you can share their stories and through them, gain an insight into our lifestyle, culture and environment.

Wherever possible we will make every effort to ensure that you can access Australia-wide destinations dependent upon climate and accessibility.
