Gold Coast Airport Marathon

Key facts

  • The 35th annual event will take place from 6-7 July 2013, at the Broadwater Parklands in Southport, Queensland.
  • The marathon raises money for its official charity partner, Cancer Council Queensland, as well a host of other charities through the Everyday Hero website.
  • The first Gold Coast Airport Marathon took place in 1979, and was originally created as part of a health awareness campaign for the Gold Coast.

Experience one of the flattest, fastest marathon courses in the world as you run past the famous golden sand and broadwater on the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast Airport Marathon is one of Australia’s largest running events, with 28,000 people competing in the marathon and other races.

The Gold Coast is a popular holiday destinations known for its sunshine, golden surf beaches, beautiful broadwater, popular restaurants and cafes, exciting theme parks and accommodation for all budgets.

Truly an international event, the marathon attracts runners from all over the world. The event also offers a range of other races for all ages and abilities, including a half marathon (21km), 10km and 5km fun runs and 4km and 2km junior dashes for children.

Each year more than 100,000 spectators line the course in the Queensland sunshine to cheer on the entrants.

Many entrants also choose to raise funds for charities, with the 2012 Gold Coast Marathon raising a more than AUD$470,000 for various charities.
